Hello! How are you today?
It’s the opening question as you enter the Radiance treatment room. Not a throw away, filler, move on question, because as a holistic therapist I genuinely want to know how you are right now. It’s also the question I’ll always set at the start of a blog, because taking time out to read one of my blogs is an investment in you. A simple pause in your day, a sit down with a warm drink, a filler on your commute, wherever you are reading this I hope it makes you think, gives you some comfort, or information – or just fills a few spare moments in your day.

Over the last few years the number of subscriptions and memberships many of us sign up to are across many aspects of life. There are lots of reasons for signing up to a membership or subscription service – think TV – Netflix, Sky and Disney are popular as they give access to the TV programs you might be interested in; gym memberships mean you become part of a ‘club’ or ‘tribe’ where you connect with other interested in improving their fitness; retail sellers entice you into paid and non paid for subscriptions to keep you engaged and offer you exclusive deals.
When I introduced memberships to Radiance Therapy, it was a bit risky. It’s not a common approach in the hands-on wellbeing world, but I had a feeling the commitment and consistency that having a membership gives would be massively beneficial to my clients. And I love that they saw the vision, as most of my clients are members!
Primarily the membership gives the participants access to additional benefits, such as discounts off additional treatments, products, and wellness advice; although I believe the biggest benefit is to themselves – of showing that they are prepared to make a commitment to their selfcare, rest and recovery. That’s huge! Many of us have had the experience of signing up to memberships full of enthusiasm – gym memberships, magazine subscriptions, loyalty cards – only to find in a short space of time we stop attending the gym, build a pile of magazines never read and even loyalty cards can loose their attraction when we find a new, better product or brand. Makes me think the benefits of those memberships are not resonating with our needs.
Somehow though, the Radiance members, never seem to forget to book their next treatment or miss a month.
Members understand that one treatment is great, they instantly feel relaxed, and it is beneficial to wellbeing, but just as attending the gym once won’t fix a lifetime of sitting on the couch, a single treatment won’t fix a lifetime of stress and ‘winging it’. This is where the membership steps up the game to wellbeing and demonstrates a long lasting approach.
When you commit to regular treatments we start to work on longer term practices; I become your regular check in on emotional, physical, and mental health. Have you got a pain or a niggle, you wonder if you should seek medical advice – use me as a sounding board (it’s more than likely I’ll advise you to take further action as pain should never be ignored). Or maybe you have a stress at home – a sick relative or someone who needs ongoing support and you simply need someone to talk to about it. I never claim to fix these type of issues, sometimes I’ll put you in touch with a specialist or support group, but use me as you would a friend, because maybe you don’t want to bother your friends with it all (again), or they have their own agenda when giving advice. I’ll always be non judgemental, provide a safe space where you can speak aloud and listen. Together we may look at the issue in a new way; find answers you had all the time, they just needed untapping.
I generally start each member treatment with a chat about their current life, stresses, and concerns. It helps with the process of relaxation. Imagine the day you come to treatment, it’s been crazy busy, you have been rushing and thought you would be late. This has all happened because of a situation out of your control, but something that happens regularly and causes you stress. You arrive flustered, adrenaline running high. It feels like this is your constant state of being. In my treatment room, a glass of water is waiting for you, and you can now sit down and pause. If I ran on tight timings, I would also be adding to your stress, encouraging you to jump on the couch and start the treatment straight away. I don’t do that; it’s not an effective way to start the relaxation process. So, I give extra time to members. Time for you to offload, have a drink, settle your nervous system, so that when you are ready for your treatment the relaxation process has already started. Incidentally, you can do this first bit anytime on your own at home, in the car, at your desk. A stop, pause, sip of water, slow your breathing down… Do you see, Radiance Therapy is much more than treatments, it is a process of relaxation and learning how to work more selfcare into your daily life.
If you have been thinking about joining one of my membership options, but have never had a treatment, I’d suggest you try one out first – book in here. Some people even have all three different types of treatments (reflexology, massage, a facial) over 3 months before they commit. Others sign up having never tried a treatment but have friends who are already members and trust their feedback. Or you could simply sign up!
To do this message me by WhatsApp (07720290465) or email to enquiries@radiancetherapy.co.uk and lets chat about your needs and concerns. I can help you pick the level of membership that would suit you best.See you on the couch soon!
